When Google goes down, the entire Internet bears the consequences. Hence, when on Friday, Google services such as search were down for a few minutes, the entire Internet community freaked out, atleast for some time. Twitter, for example, witnessed a furor when Google went down.
GoSquared reports that Google Outage brought around a 40% drop in global traffic in just five minutes. On August 16, 2013, Google.com was down between 23:52 and 23:57 BST. Thankfully, the outage did not last long. Google has announced that it has resolved the issue. However, the Search Engine giant says the outage lasted between 1 and 5 minutes.
During the Google Outage, competitors such as Bing and Yahoo could not target their marketing to Google users.
